DNA Replication
Initiation of DNA replication occurs in several steps in a cell cycle-dependant manner, and results in bi-directional replication from the origin. DNA replication occurs in several distinct steps:
- Recognition: ORC recognizes and binds the replication origin
- Initiative assembly (a.k.a. licensing): pre-RC assembles with the DNA helicase (MCM complex in mammals) to 'licence' the complex
- Unwinding: Activation of the DNA helicase
- Elongative Assembly: Replisome loads, and includes the DNA polymerase holoenzmes, and SSB (single-stranded DNA binding proteins)
